Scholarship Background

This scholarship was created to honor the memory of Clark Van Pelt, who passed away far too soon on January of 2014 at the age of 24. Clark was a loving son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend to many people. He had a zest for seizing life with both hands and living the moment to the fullest. One of Clark’s favorite pastimes was comic books, as well as the tv shows and movies based off of them. He truly believed such artistic endeavours not only dared us to dream larger than our day to day lives, but gave us a safe place to examine our own human nature. In the wake of Clark’s passing, he would be thrilled to know his love for the creations of visual storytellers would be the seed of this scholarship. It is our hope here at Element X that this scholarship will contribute a small part to the next generation of awe inspiring heroes on the page and screen.
